Lindsay, ON (April 30, 2026) - As gardening season begins across Ontario, The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group is launching the latest season of its widely recognized community program supporting homegrown food and local food security, SEEDit 2026.
This year, 7,500 vouchers valued at $50 each will be available to help residents start or expand home gardens. The program continues to grow with more participating garden centres across Ontario and free learning opportunities designed to support gardeners at every stage.
Across Commonwell Country, the towns and communities where The Commonwell and its broker partners serve, the vouchers help residents invest in seeds, soil and plants while encouraging the sharing of fresh produce within communities.
Voucher registration opens Wednesday, May 6 at 12 p.m. at seedit.thecommonwell.ca until vouchers are allocated.
“With rising food costs putting real pressure on households across Ontario, SEEDit helps turn everyday gardening into a practical way to strengthen food security and support neighbours,” said Tim Shauf, president and chief executive officer of The Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group. “It is a simple idea, rooted in community, that continues to grow stronger and deliver meaningful impact year after year.”
Participants are also invited to join a Facebook community of more than 7,500 gardeners, where members share advice, experiences and encouragement throughout the season. In addition, free webinars provide practical guidance on planting, garden care, harvesting, and food preservation.
The program now includes 45 garden centres across Ontario, expanding access and strengthening participation across Commonwell Country.
